YSF Assam

YSF Assam tied on #1 (or larger) 2-3X hook. This is our own derivation of the Charles E. Brooks famous Assam Dragon and tied here by YellowStoneFly of the Idaho Fly Fishers Blog. Basically the fly thorax is the Assam Dragon--the tail is tied just like a Wooly Bugger's tail. Great fly for all species of larger fish such as trout, smallmouth, largemouth, pike, stripe bass and speckle trout just to name a few. It may be tied in multiple colors and as you can see here, makes a wonderful Christmas tree ornament--just make sure you either cut off or tape up the barb or hang it high enough where the kids and pets won't bother.

Idaho Fly Fishing
Tail marabou + 15-20 strands pearl flashabou.
0.020 lead wire thorax body weight.

Idaho Fly Fishing
Tie in rabbit zonker.

Idaho Fly Fishing
Tie on 6 rubber legs on top of lead wire.

Idaho Fly Fishing
Wrap zonker forward once superglue added to wire top.
Whip finish head with desired color thread.

This fly floats great and provides a lot of great very live looking action in the water whether it is allowed to  dread drift or it is stripped. Tight lines, hard takes and happy holidays.
