|Kootenai River Bull|
Thanks for the email. Really appreciate your viewing my blog. The Libby area does offer some really good summertime fly fishing. For starters, try the Kootenai. It is large water but you can do in a drift boat or personal pontoon. Just make sure you avoid going over the Kootenai falls. They are a beautiful sight though. You can access the falls off of Hwy 2 with a 15 minute walk. Definitely worth doing. There are multiple places to wade fish on the Kootenai, but most of these wade areas are only accessible by boat. One of my personal favorites is just west of the Idaho/Montana line in the lower river section. There is a large island which you can see from the ghost town of Leonia right at the state line where Boulder creek empties. Fish to the right and left of the upper divide. There are some really big cutbows there. There are three sections which all the outfitters can speak to. In summer I would try hopper/dropper patterns and the YSF Stinger for best results.
Also there is the Bull River between Libby and Troy. Huge cutthroats reside there. The fishing seems to slow after July-probably June this year unless we get more snow. I would float the section b/w MP 12.5 (canoe access) and the 8 mile bridge. Meanders a lot and takes at least 4 hours. You also might try the Moyie River. It is a bit of a drive from Libby, but also has some nice fish.
Hard takes and tight lines and screaming reels to you guys. If I can be of further assistance, please email me again.

See your response on my blog. Kootenai and other local river photos are posted there.
PS-There is one wade area just below the Libby dam which holds nice fish and is easily accessible by

Read a couple of your blogs, great stuff!
I'm from Alberta, Canada and make 2 trips down to Libby, MT for baseball every year.
Just wondering the best places to fish in early May and Late June around that area.
