There are 30 sections of very famous western & Montana fly fishing rivers discussed here. For example the Missouri River has an excellent and very detailed 2 page discussion in here in an all you need know format.

This short book also has launch points, camping areas, hatch charts, easy to follow driving instructions and some wonderful photos. New in this book are trout fishing schedules--in other words the best time to catch fish. There are several short paragraphs about area establishments and attractions in each section, with Montana fly fishing hints and comments as well.

Thus my motivation for this purchase. It cost, by the way, $24.95 at my local farm, home and sporting goods store. I have also seen this on Amazon, since my purchase, for around $20 including shipping.

It really is a great western fly fishing river with sometimes large catches of brown and rainbow. The fish are generally in the 10-12 inch range but can be quite large particularly in the fall. The one pictured below here is a great example of the type of fish one can catch on some of these Central Montana Rivers.

Central Montana Big Boy Brown

If you have seen the river near St. Louis, you will not believe what the Montana water looks like. Wait until you visit and take in the wilderness surrounding the river. It is most impressive.

By the way, if you need flies to take with you to the Missouri or any other Montana trout river, look at the hatch charts in the book, then go to Big Y Flies. Their flies are quite durable and inexpensive. And for the perfect Missouri River rod, try out their 9 foot Nano. I have one and I must say, it is one of my favorites and perfect for the St. Joe. Big Y also has frequent sales. Get on their mailing list. It is definitely worth it.

Hard takes, tight lines, come and join us on MO if you can. Don't forget Idaho fly fishing as well.

PS - We have an awesome IDFFA trip planned to the Missouri in September. This short resource is the perfect resource for Montana rivers and streams. Frank Amato also has reference sources for Washington state, Oregon, Northern California and Alaska. See Amazon for this publication as well. It will also cost around $20 including shipping.
