Memorial Day 2017

Here's to all of the men and women that have sacrificed literally everything they have had or ever will have to make this absolutely the greatest nation on earth, AND DON'T LET ANYONE EVEN TRY AND MAKE YOU BELIEVE OTHERWISE. If you do not believe in the values and beliefs in this country, go and live somewhere else.

Idaho River Report 2017

Snoopy Rock - Sedona, AZ
Just returned from a road trip from Idaho to Sedona, AZ. I was there for a professional meeting so did no fishing, but couldn't anyway. And here's why.

As most of you know, the West was inundated with snow this year. Most places had at least 10-20% more snowfall than normal. Well, it is almost June and there is virtually no fly fishing at present in rivers and streams. Here is a list of the waters I saw or crossed:
Oak Creek, AZ
Colorado River, AZ
Snake River, ID
Beaverhead River, MT
Lemhi River, ID
Salmon River, ID
Bitterroot River, MT
Clark Fork River, MT/ID
Flathead River, MT
Thompson River, MT
Vermillion River, MT
Bull River, MT
Lightning Creek, ID

The honest truth is these famous fly fishing rivers are way too high and muddy to fish right now. If things hold true to history, I predict right now that fly fishing will probably not be really possible until late June or early July this year. I actually did see a drift boat on the Salmon late one evening, but I believe this was only a local guide giving his lady friend a late evening boat ride--they were definitely not fishing.

Anyway, hopefully it won't be long now until we can all get out there and slay them. Remember catch-n-release for the future generations.

Hard takes, tight lines and screaming reels soon to you all.

Life Is Really Short!

This was a thoughtful email.

THE AUTHOR IS UNKNOWN. IT WAS FOUND IN THE BILLFOLD OF COACH PAUL "BEAR" BRYANT, ALABAMA, AFTER HE DIED IN 1982.

The only photo I could find of Paul "Bear" Bryant fishing. I'm sure he was fly fishing in a lake in Idaho and NOT Tuscaloosa, AL though.

                                THE MAGIC BANK ACCOUNT

Imagine that you had won the following *PRIZE* in a contest:
Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for your use. However, this prize has Rules:
The set of Rules:
1. Everything that you didn't spend during each day would be taken away from you.
2. You may not simply transfer money into some other account.
3. You may only spend it.
4. Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day.
5. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time, it can say, "Game Over!" It can close the account, and you will not receive a new one.

fly fish Idaho; flies fishing; fly fishing; fly fishing equipment; fishing flies; fishing gear; trout flies; salmon flies; fly fishing Idaho; flies for sale; Idaho fly fishing; flyfishing flies; fishing flysWhat would you personally do? You would buy anything and everything you wanted right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people you don't know, because you couldn't possibly spend it all on yourself - right? You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right?

ACTUALLY, THIS GAME IS REAL! Each of us is already a winner of this *PRIZE*. We just can't seem to see it. The PRIZE is “TIME":
1. Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of Life.
2. And when we go to sleep at Night, any remaining time is not credited to us.
3. What we haven't used up that Day is forever lost.
4. Yesterday is forever gone.
5. Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time WITHOUT WARNING...

So, what will YOU do with your 86,400 seconds?

Those seconds are worth so much more than the same amount in dollars.  Think about it and remember to enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think
So take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply and enjoy life!
Start spending....

"DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT GROWING OLD SOME PEOPLE DON'T GET THE PRIVILEGE!"

Only fools and idiots squander time--like video gamers. Time is the one commodity we have which we cannot replace. The one thing I notice as I age is time travels faster and faster. Those 86,400 daily seconds pass now as if they we only 15,365. By tomorrow they will be down to 15, 015 seconds. Life quickly passes us by. And almost as bad, nothing seems to function like it used to.

I bought an antique "Black Beauty" Heddon bamboo fly rod from an older gentleman many years ago. He was probably in his 80's. When I asked him why he was liquidating his fly fishing collection, he tearfully said it was because the river rocks were bigger and much more slippery than they used to be and his son was more concerned about his fishing the streams. So he was selling everything and packing up and moving to California to live with his son and grandchildren. God truly help us.

May what remains of YOUR life be filled with heart stopping takes and tight lines. Come and fly fish Idaho very soon! Before it is too late!

Q:       Where can single Idaho fly fishermen over the age of 70 find younger women who are interested in them?
A:       Try a bookstore, under Fiction.

Q:       What can an Idaho fly fisherman do while his wife is going through menopause?
A:       Keep busy. If you're handy with tools, you can finish the basement. When you're done, you will have a place to live.

Q:       Someone has told me that menopause is mentioned in the bible... Is that true? Where can it be found?
A:       Yes. Matthew 14:92: "And Mary rode Joseph's ass all the way to Egypt  ...."

Q:       How can you increase the heart rate of your over-70 year-old Idaho fly fisherman husband?
A:       Tell him you're pregnant.

Q:       How can you avoid that terrible curse of the elderly wrinkles?
A:       Take off your glasses.

What can the Idaho fly fisherman's wife do for those crow's feet and all those wrinkles on my her face and neck?
A:       Tell her to go braless. It will usually pull them out. THEN DROP YOUR FLY ROD AND RUN LIKE HELL!

Q:       Why should a 70-plus year old Idaho fly fishermen use valet parking?
A:       Valets don't forget where they park your car.

Q:       Is it common for the 70-plus year old Idaho fly fishermen  to have problems with  short term memory storage?
A:       Yes! Storing memory is not a problem. Retrieving it is the problem.

Q:       As Idaho fly fishermen age, do they sleep more soundly?
A:       Yes, but usually only in the afternoon.
