Simple Madame "X".

Looking through my fly box, I realized I left out a great fly for warm days. It is the Madame "X". This is a simple way to tie this fly.

Pictured here we have red and yellow.
Both great colors.
1-Tie in color of choice at bend.
2- Add tuft of elk hair for tail.

3-Add full length, may need
several wraps.

4-Try to make even throughout.

5-Add reverse tuft of elk. Wrap
backwards past elk hair,

6-Fold elk back and
secure 1/4th way back.

Keep going.
7-Add lateral rubber legs.

8-1/2 hitch and tip with
head cement.

Great in different colors!
I like elk for most floaters because the hair next to skin is hollow and floats very well.

Try it. This is a really great Idaho fly fishing fly--particularly for cutthroat.

Hard takes, tight lines and huge cutthroat to you all.
